Out with the Hutch, In with some (More) Shelves
Sometimes just a small change can make a really big impact.
Though I loved my old Craigslist hutch, no matter where I slid it, there just wasn’t enough space. Saying goodbye was easy though… I had bigger plans up my sleeve. Ready for it? More Open shelves! If you could see me I have a huge smile on my face and am ready to do a happy dance.
A few (4 to be exact, I already had 2 from my previous shelving experience in the kitchen) home depot brackets, a 10×12 cut down into 3, 3 foot shelves, (I have an extra piece should I want to add another shelf somewhere…) a touch of Minwax provincial and I was in business ladies and gentlemen. Let’s take a quick look back again at the empty wall where the hutch used to live:
And now, stacked with some new open shelving:
I made that cute little “gather” sign out of a slice of wood I convinced the Mr. to cut for me (seriously they charge $10 for these babies at the craft store! I know!? Right?). I’ll be having some more fun arranging and re-arranging the shelves but for now I’m pretty happy with the result. Tune back in to see what’s on the other side of that corbel :-). Thank you so much for popping in!
I love your shelves! Is it wrong that I look at my house and want to take down perfectly wonderful cabinets to put up shelves? 🙂
Hi Stacey!
Lol I’m loving this question. No, it’s not wrong at all. If something speaks to you, go for it. I truly believe you need to make your home work for you. You are the one that is living in it… it should be a reflection of you, make you smile, and welcome you each time you walk through the door. Life is just too short to settle if you ask me ;-). I took out all of our shelves and I haven’t looked back. Truly couldn’t be happier with the result. Hope that’s helpful. Thanks so much by the way… and I love your blog name… heading over to check it out. 😉
