DIY Welcome Sign
Anyone up for a quick DIY project? You might notice as you follow along that I have a little obsession with signs. I love how they add character and interest to a room. That, and my kids name the letters aloud “reading” them. Bonus. Who knew décor could be educational? Win win.
Most of the materials I use for my signs are scraps that I’ve found from furniture left by the side of the road, or from some steal on Craigslist. This time of year lots of people are moving so keep your eyes open! There are some fabulous finds out there just waiting for a little creativity.
Today’s post will be on the sign that “Welcomes” you into our kitchen area (which is really open to our family room and dining room.). I decided to hang it on my other Craigslist find, my $15 hutch (you can read more about this little transformation here.).
This piece of wood was from the inside of an old dresser. The dresser itself pretty much fell apart but I knew it had some good bones just waiting for another life.
So I cleaned it up and painted a thin coat of Benjamin Moore Wrought Iron.
Next I hit the computer and printed out large letters in Georgia. I made sure that I printed in “outline” to save ink. Then I cut out the letters and placed them on the board. (this step may take a bit of trial and error, and you might need to print out the letters larger or smaller depending on board size.)
Lastly I took some white paint and a stencil brush and quickly stenciled in the letters. Done and Done.
Simple right? Enjoy!
