Powder Room Before and After
It’s funny to call it that, a powder room. Seems so fancy. It’s actually a teensy tiny bathroom that is directly off the laundry room. That qualifies right? When I grew up this was such a fun bathroom. My mom put fish wallpaper up and hung pictures and mementos of one of my most favorite family trips. Ever. It was the “Aruba bathroom” and everyone, even visiting friends knew which one we were talking about. Here’s what I mean:
If you look closely here you’ll see that the wallpaper had started to peel. Somehow that small tear became a big one after the girls’ trip in there, and here we are at the brink of a makeover.
Since it’s such a small room, I wanted to give it big character. I’d been swooning over Shiplap and I thought this would be the perfect place to give it a try. A sheet of the thinnest plywood you can find at Home Depot is $11. Totally doable right? We cut it into 6 inch strips, nailed it up and voila!
In this picture you can see to the left, a half-tiled wall. I couldn’t stand it. Just as I was about to break out a chisel, the wheels started turning again. What else could I do, inexpensively, to completely change the way this looks? The light went on – chalkboard paint. I just happened to have some left over in my paint closet too. Done and done. Ready to see how it looks today?
I have had some fun in here – notice the big pig up on the wall? It’s a remake from a find in the clearance aisle at Homegoods (big surprise 😉 ) I’ll share a quick tutorial on him very soon! For now, I hope you enjoyed this little makeover and in case you’re interested, here’s a detailed source list:
