Kitchen Update: Incorporating a Barn Door
My Grammy once told me that my Grandfather Phil (whom I never had the opportunity to meet) was “ahead of his time.” She was right. He built many things with his hands, first because they barely had two nickels to rub together, but more importantly, he just liked it. Creativity and craftsmanship was in his blood.
We’ve already seen the amazing farmhouse table he’d built (more on that here).
But even more impressively, he helped to build the home he and my Grammy started a family in. When Grammy passed away we decided to bring a piece of that history home with us….And now, standing as proud as I think Phil would be if he could see his family today, is the barn door that he built so many years ago.
And if you knew Grammy Flo, or as we called her, Gigi, she’d be smiling ear to ear knowing part of her home now lives with us, and will be a conversation piece that I hope, will continue to live on through the generations…
…because that, for me, is what classic décor is all about.
Do you have an item or a piece of history in your home that you’d like to share the story behind? I’d love to hear all about it! Send me a note 🙂
Hi Kate! 🙂
I love your barn door, it looks amazing and even more amazing is the story about its history! You are so right, that these are the things that matter in a home, these are the things we should be ‘decorating’ with…things with meaning and history! Your home is beautiful!
Kimberley
